Sipdroid: Free SIP/VoIP app for Android
It’s been over a year since I moved to a foreign country and started using Sipdroid for almost every phone call I make, so I decided that’s its about time I write something about this Android app.
Roaming calls and data transfer is incredibly expensive, we all know that. So in the search of a cheaper way to keep in touch with my friends from abroad, I came across Sipdroid: a totally free SIP/VoIP app for Android.
Sipdroid allows you to make calls to any phone number in the world using a WiFi or a GPRS/EDGE connection. In most of the cases it is cheaper than actually calling through roaming services. Let’s take one example: calling from Vodafone Germany to Orange Hungary would cost me 0.30Euros/Minute. Through the VoIP provider I connected on Sipdroid I can chat with anyone around the globe for 0.09Euros/Minute.
Sipdroid is entirely free, you can download it from the developers home. Check some of the screenshots taken while using the Sipdroid VoIP app for Android.
