Android GPS Essentials
I admire very much and recommend this Android app for one solid reason: it occupies merely 400kb of physical space and yet it does so many things. Of course, you can’t expect it to help you on street navigating and map browsing as good as iGo does, but still… GPS Essentials is an essential navigation app for Android.
As you can expect, the 400kb physical space do not include any maps and real navigation features, but GPS Essentials provides you the right tools to capture and get the maximum signal and establish the best connection to the available gps sattellites.
GPS Essentials display gps data such as: travel speed, travel altitude, time, relative position to all available gps sattellites, course (north, west, south, east). While exploring the nature or walking through the mountains this app can become extremely useful, as it contains a perfectly working compass.
I was saying something about map browsing: GPS Essentials does not include any preinstalled maps, but it was designed to connect very easy to Google Maps and indicate your exact location. Of course this feature only works if you have a stable internet connection (Wi-Fi or 3G). I’d like to keep talking about GPS Essentials but I believe there is no need to do it: I suggest you try it out on your own. The app is available for free on the Android Market. Go ahead and check it out!
